Let's Set Sail inspired by...

Two Pina Coladas
Lyrics by: Shawn Camp, Benita Hill and Sandy Mason
Album: Garth Brooks - Sevens

I was feelin' the blues
I was watching the news
When this fella came on TV

He said I'm tellin' you
That science has proved
That heartaches are healed by the sea

That got me goin'
Without even knowin'
I packed right up and drove down

Now I'm on a roll
And I swear to my soul
Tonight I'm gonna paint this town

Chorus:
So bring me two pina coladas
I want one for each hand
Let's set sail with Captain Morgan
And never reach dry land

Troubles I forgot 'em
I buried them in the sand
So bring me two pina coladas
She said good-bye to her good timin' man

Oh now I gotta say
That the wind and the waves
And the moon winkin' down at me

Eases my mind
By leavin' behind
The heartaches that love often brings

Now I've got a smile
That goes on for miles
With no inclination to roam

And I've gotta say
That I think I'll stay
'Cause this is feelin' more and more like home

Chorus
So bring me two pina coladas
I want one for each hand
Let's set sail with Captain Morgan
And we will never leave dry land

Hey troubles I forgot 'em
I buried 'em in the sand
So bring me two pina coladas
She said good-bye to her good timin' man

Notes:

It's amazing what one little phrase can inspire. I was driving around doing errands one day and this song came on. Captain Morgan, of course, refers to rum, but my mind started playing with "what if Jason was a boat captain and he and Elizabeth met?" From there it was just throwing around ideas, keeping in mind the theme about heartbreak and taking off to the tropics to ease the pain, and of course she meets a flesh and blood Captain Morgan and not the alcohol. It's a fun little song, and it's probably one of the most fun stories I've written.
